Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
Robert Morris University and the School of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (SEMS) are pleased to share
with you an opportunity to receive a special grant from
the National Science Foundation (NSF).
This grant, referred to as the S-STEM Grant, (Scholarships
in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
provides institutions with funds to help enable academically talented but financially needy students to enter the workforce
in fields of science, engineering, or mathematics.
We are interested in recruiting 21 academically talented but financially needy new students to RMU and helping to support these worthy scholars for each of their four years. Each student will receive $6,000 per year for their four years at RMU, in addition to the financial aid package they would already qualify to receive.
To qualify students must:
- Be accepted into Robert Morris University under a SEMS degree. SEMS enrolls students through its programs in software, mechanical, biomedical, manufacturing and industrial engineering; applied mathematics; actuarial science; pre-medicine; biology; and environmental science.
- Have a minimum score of 1150 on the SAT or a 25 on the ACT and a 3.2 GPA
- Write an approximately 300 word essay on why they are choosing their field of study and what makes them a good candidate for the scholarship
- Provide one letter of recommendation from an academic source at their high school (teacher, principal, guidance counselor, etc.)
- Provide a list of activities such as community service, athletics, organizations, etc.
- Interview with the Scholarship Committee at RMU
- Complete an Early Award Financial Aid Estimator to determine financial need
- Interview with the grant committee at the RMU campus in Moon Township between December 2008 and February 2009. Recipients will be selected by March 31st, 2009.
