Need-Based Grants

Grants, like scholarships, do not have to be repaid. Most of the grants listed below are gift assistance awaded based on need. Every student's application is reviewed for grant eligibility. One or more of the grants lised may be included in a financial aid package. In order to apply for these grants, you must complete and file a FAFSA.
Federal Grants:
- Pell Grant
The Pell Grant Program provides need based grants to low-income students. on need. Grant amounts are dependent on: the student's expected family contribution (EFC); the cost of attendance (as determined by the institution); the student's enrollment status (full-time or part-time); and whether the student attends for a full academic year or less.
- Supplimentary Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The Supplimental Educational Opportunity Grant is a program for undergraduates with exceptional finanacial need. Pell Grant receipients witht the lowest expected family contributions (EFCs) will be considered first for a SEOG. This is a grant and does not have to be repaid.
- Academic Competiveness Grant
The Academic Competitiveness Grant is available to full-time students who are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant and who had successfully completed a rigorous high school program, as determined by the state or local education agency and recognized by the Secretary of Education. The Academic Competitiveness Grant award is in addition to the student's Pell Grant award. Click here for more information.
State Grants:
- PHEAA Grant
PHEAA (Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency) is a state grant program which offers financial assistance to eligible Pennsylvania undergraduate students meet the costs of higher education. The FAFSA serves as the program's application.
