What kinds of Financial Aid are available?
Financial aid is funding that may be available to you
from several different sources, including the federal
and state governemments, the institution and other
outside organizations. There are two basic categories
of financial aid - gift aid and self-help aid.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is financial aid that does not have to be repaid.
It can include grants and scholarships. Grants are
usually based on a student's financial need. Criteria
for awarding grants can vary among different awarding
agencies. Scholarships are funds given to students who
show promise of high achievement in areas of academics, athletics or other areas.

Self-Help Aid
Self Help Aid is financial aid that must be either repaid or earned. Self-help aid can include loans and/or employment programs. Loans are borrowed funds that must be repaid. In many cases, these loans are low-interest and payments can often be deferred as long as a student remains enrolled at least half-time. Student employment programs give students the opportunity to earn money and gain experience through on-campus, or off-campus community service jobs.
